Tallow Care, Rooted in Simplicity.

Crafted from nutrient-rich suet tallow and simple ingredients you can trust on your skin and in your home.

Why Tallow

Tallow is rendered from grass-fed beef fat and is one of nature’s most compatible moisturizers for skin.

Rich in vitamins A, D, E, and K, it closely mirrors the natural oils of our skin. It is deeply nourishing without clogging pores.

We use it because your skin deserves what’s real.

Because of that compatibility, tallow isn’t just something we use in one product, it’s the foundation of much of our skin care, from balms to deodorant and soap.

When an ingredient works this well with the body, we let it do the heavy lifting.

Why Suet Matters

Not all tallow is the same.

We use suet , the dense, nutrient-rich fat surrounding the kidneys — rather than trim fat.

Suet renders into a cleaner, more stable tallow that’s especially well-suited for skin care.

The result is a balm that doesn't feel greasy but feels: smooth, supportive and familiar to the skin

It’s a difference many people notice as soon as they try it.

  • Does Tallow Smell Like Beef?

    No.

Properly rendered tallow should not smell like a hamburger.

Strong odors are often a sign of lower-quality starting fat or inadequate rendering and purification.

Our tallow is carefully rendered in small batches to create a clean, mild product that allows the natural ingredients and essential oils to shine.

Many customers are surprised by how light and pleasant properly rendered tallow can be.

  • Can't I Just Use Cooking Tallow on My Skin?

Not all tallow is created for skincare.

Many cooking tallows are made from general trim fat and rendered for culinary use, not skin application. While they may work well in the kitchen, they often create a very different experience on the skin.

At Wildly Rooted, we use carefully rendered suet, the nutrient-rich fat surrounding the kidneys, to create a cleaner, more refined tallow specifically suited for skincare.

The quality of the fat, how it's rendered, and how it's purified all influence how a finished product feels on the skin.

That's why skincare tallow and cooking tallow can provide very different experiences.

  • Why Is Tallow So Compatible With Skin?

One reason people love tallow is because it contains many of the same fatty acids and lipids naturally found in healthy skin.

These skin-supporting fats help maintain the skin barrier and support moisture retention.

Because of this compatibility, many people find tallow absorbs beautifully and leaves skin feeling nourished rather than coated.

It's one of the reasons tallow has been used in traditional skincare for generations.

  • Will Tallow Clog My Pores?

Many people assume it will, but quality matters.

Poorly rendered tallow or heavier fats can leave a greasy residue on the skin. We use carefully rendered suet tallow because it creates a cleaner, smoother balm that absorbs more readily.

Because tallow contains many of the same fatty acids found naturally in healthy skin, many customers find it works exceptionally well for daily moisturizing without feeling heavy.

As with any skincare product, every person's skin is unique.

  • Why Do You Use Suet Instead of Trim Fat?

Suet is considered the premium fat for tallow skincare.

It renders into a cleaner, more refined tallow that's naturally rich in skin-supporting nutrients. Trim fat can vary significantly depending on where it comes from on the animal, while suet provides greater consistency and a more elegant finished product.

For us, the quality of the finished product starts with the quality of the fat itself.

  • What's the Difference Between Daily Mend and Daily Barrier?

While both are made with grass-fed tallow, they're designed for very different purposes.

Daily Mend is our everyday tallow balm. It's designed to deeply nourish, moisturize, and support healthy skin as part of your daily routine.

Daily Barrier is our outdoor balm. In addition to grass-fed tallow, it contains non-nano zinc oxide to help create a protective barrier between your skin and the elements. It's ideal for time spent outdoors, at the pool, on the ranch, at the beach, or anywhere your skin could use extra protection.

    Think of it this way:

Daily Mend helps nourish and restore.

Daily Barrier helps protect and defend.

Most customers keep both on hand because they serve different roles and aren't typically interchangeable.

A Note on Craft & Formulation

While suet-based tallow is ideal for skin care, we’ve learned through experience that it isn’t the best fit for every application.

For products like hair care and leather or wood conditioning, we thoughtfully adjust our formulations to use the fats and oils best suited for those materials.

We don’t believe in forcing one ingredient everywhere, we believe in using what works best.
